Symbian’ s Nokia C6-01 received the PR 1.1 firmware update this morning.
Clocking in at the expected 7MB, this is
v13.016 for the smallest Symbian^3
device. Updates include changes to the
web browser, email client, music
player and a number of miscellaneous issues around the handset. As we ’ ve said with the Nokia N8 and Nokia C7 updates, PR 1.1 is a relatively minor firmware updates in terms of
new user interface features. Those of
you waiting for the new browser
and keyboard layouts (for example)
are really waiting for PR 2.0 later in the
Spring. It’ s not exactly the same on the C6-01 as others, Quickoffice, for example,
stays as a read only piece of software
(although you can purchase the
update yourself), but with a general
speed improvement, it feels like the
built in software is now tweaked and working well. It ’ s a minor step to the aforementioned 2.0, but it’ s a vital one, and one that enhances the C6-01,
and now the whole of the Symbian^3
range. Ewan Spence, AAS 4
